Paula Paiva is a 5th generation coffee producer at her family farm called Fazenda Recanto in Machado in the Sul de Minas region, Minas Gerais State. The history of the farm is incredible and the earliest records of activity on this farm began in 1896.

Fazenda Recanto tells its story in parallel with the development of the production of specialty coffees in Brazil. Since 1896 the farm has produced and maintained the coffee tradition. The Magalhães family is keen to combine this tradition with modern cultivation, offering the best coffee to its consumers. The Fazenda also has more than 40% of its total area preserved in native forests and since 2006 it has the Rainforest Alliance certification, which pertains to the sustainability of production and proves respect for labor rights and environmental legislation.

The Maragogipe variety was first found by Crisógono José Fernandes in 1870 in the municipality of Maragogipe in the state of Bahia, hence its name. The origin of the Maragogipe variety occurred through a natural mutation of the Typica variety.

Maragogipe is a variety known for its low productivity, which has restricted its cultivation, so it has become a very rare variety.
